Thank you for considering applying to the University of California Santa Cruz! The UC Application for Fall 2025 will open in August 2024 and must be submitted by November 30, 2024. For information about application updates, please use the Application Update category below.

Please do not submit any transcripts at this time. We evaluate based on self-reported scores. If you are offered admission, you will be required to submit all official transcripts by our deadline. You will be able to see what official transcripts are required using your Checklist in the Student Portal after the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) deadline. Transcripts must be complete and official. Find more information using the Admitted Student category after admission.

You will receive an admission decision through your Student Portal according to our decision release dates, which you can find on our website under Dates and Deadlines.

When the UC Application Center receives your UC Application they will send a confirmation email acknowledging that they received the application and to which campuses you applied. If this email does not appear in your inbox, please check your spam, junk and promotions folders. If you did not receive this initial confirmation email you can contact the UC Application Center at (800) 207-1710 (within the U.S.) or (310) 513-2715 (outside the U.S.) or e-mail them at ucinfo@applyUCsupport.net.

The UC Santa Cruz acknowledgement email – including instructions for claiming your CruzID, setting your CruzID Gold Password, and logging into the portal - is emailed to you in late December for fall applicants and early August for winter applicants using the email address you provided when applying. Again, sometimes your email filter will put these emails in your spam, junk or promotions folder, so please make sure that future emails from UCSC are received in your inbox.

Please check out this website for student portal log-in information. Then, if you still need assistance, contact the help desk at help@ucsc.edu using the email account that you entered on your UC Application or by phone at (831) 459-HELP (4357). Help Desk hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time).

Once an application is submitted, an acknowledgement email is sent out with a student ID number and instructions on accessing the MyUCSC student portal. Then the evaluation process begins. Once a decision has been made, it is posted on the MyUCSC Student Portal based on the dates that decisions are scheduled to be released. Unfortunately, we are unable to give updates on an applicant's status during this process.

Decisions are given through the MyUCSC Student Portal. If you are having trouble accessing your Student Portal, please navigate to the Student Portal category for further information. If you have not received an acknowledgement email, please make sure to check all of your spam and promotions folders to ensure delivery. General Application Updates

Applicants can log in to their application to review and, if necessary, change their telephone number, email, mailing address or SAT, ACT, TOEFL, or International Exam Scores.

Coursework and schedule changes, grade changes, etc.

First year students should use the update form on the Admissions website. We cannot make updates to an application via email, telephone, or in-person request.

Transfer students are required to update their application by logging into their application and completing the Transfer Academic Update. Updates that need to made once that deadline has passed can be made using the update form on the Admissions website. We cannot make updates to an application via email, telephone, or in-person request.

First-Year Students Proposed Major Updates

Choice of major does not influence the selection of first-year students, except for those applicants interested in a major offered by the Jack Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE). First-year students who are interested in a BSOE program should have indicated a BSOE proposed major when applying. Students who did not indicate a BSOE program or who applied as undeclared might not be able to pursue a BSOE program.

Students are able to change their proposed major in their student portal after they are offered admission. Students receive a message in their Application Status and Info tile in their student portal with instructions on how to update their major after they are offered admission. Only those majors that are open will be visible.

Any updates to the proposed major after July will be managed by the department.

Transfer Proposed Major Updates

Applicants admitted to Screening Majors that wish to then change to another Screening Major must go through the Major Departments to request approval after admission.

Applicants applying to Non-Screening Majors will be evaluated for general selection.

Students are able to change their major to a non-screening major in their student portal after they are offered admission. Students receive a message in their Application Status and Info tile in their student portal with instructions on how to update their major after they are offered admission. Only those majors that are open will be visible.

Any updates to Non-Screening majors after July will be managed by the department.

California high school students who are eligible for the Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) Program and are not admitted to any campus to which they apply will be offered a spot at another campus if space is available. Please visit the UCOP website for more information.

You will be notified by email if space at a UC campus is available.

All students who will enter the University of California as first-year students must demonstrate their command of the English language by fulfilling the Entry Level Writing Requirement or ELWR. Please see http://www.ucop.edu/elwr/ for more information.

Students can fulfill this requirement by earning one of these scores before they begin attending UCSC:

Score 63 or higher on the ACT, English + Reading sections; or

Score 680 or higher on the SAT, Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing; or

Score 3 or higher on either Advanced Placement Examination in English (Language or Literature); or

Score 5 or higher on an International Baccalaureate Higher Level English (English A: Language and Literature); or

Score 5 or higher on an International Baccalaureate Higher Level English (English A: Literature); or

Score 6 or higher on an International Baccalaureate Standard Level English A: Literature exam; or

Complete with a grade of C or higher in a UC-transferable English composition course offered by a college or university prior to attending UC Santa Cruz

All incoming California students who have not met the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) will be directed to take the Directed Self-Placement (DSP) in the summer as part of Orientation.

Please note: in order to update unofficial scores, you need to log into your UC application. We cannot update your scores directly. Official scores are uploaded to the system as they are received, and you can check status through your MyUCSC Portal.

We require all applicants who attend a school in a country where English is not the native language or whose language of instruction in high school (secondary school) was not English, to adequately demonstrate English competency as a part of the application process as sufficient preparation in English is essential to succeed in the University.

You can demonstrate proficiency by meeting any of the following exam benchmarks. Keep in mind that you must complete one of these exams by December of your final year of high school/secondary school and submit scores by the following January.

Score 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Score of 115 or higher on the Duolingo English Test (DET)

Score 80 or higher on the iBT Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a score of 60 or higher on the paper-delivered test

Score 31 or higher on the Writing & Language Test of the SAT

Score 24 or higher on the ACT combined English/Writing or English Language Arts (ELA)

Score 3, 4 or 5 on the AP examination in English Language and Composition, or English Literature and Composition

Score 6 or 7 on the IB Standard Level examination in English: Literature, or Language and Literature

Score 5, 6 or 7 on the IB Higher Level examination in English: Literature, or Language and Literature

For TOEFL, you can send your official scores to one UC campus, and all campuses you apply to will receive them as well.

For IELTS, be sure to arrange to have your scores sent electronically to each campus to which you apply. No paper test report forms will be accepted

Transfer students who have less than 3 years of their high school (secondary) education with English as the language of instruction must complete one of the three requirements below to meet UCSC English proficiency:

Complete at least two UC-transferable English composition courses with a grade point average of 2.0 (C) or higher.
Achieve a score of 80 on the internet-based Test (iBT) of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, includes TOEFL iBT Home Edition
Achieve a score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), includes IELTS Indicator Exam
Achieve a score of 115 on the Duolingo English Test (DET).

UC will waive application fees for up to four campuses for qualified students who would otherwise be unable to apply for admission. The fee waiver program is for United States citizens, permanent residents, and applicants eligible for AB540 benefits.

You can apply for a fee waiver within the online application and be notified during the application process whether you have qualified. You will need to provide your family's income and the number of people supported by that income.

Residential Communities

We don't have an English preparation program at our university for non-enrolled students at this time. However there a two programs near the campus that do:

Cabrillo College: English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Cabrillo College English as a Second Language (ESL) program serves both resident and foreign students from all over the world. It is designed to prepare non-native speakers to succeed in regular academic and vocational classes by helping them read, write, comprehend, and speak American English from beginning to college level.

Santa Cruz Adult School

English as a Second Language classes are 'open entry' throughout the year, providing instruction in English speaking, reading, writing, and listening for adults who range in ability from non-speakers of English to those who are nearly fluent. Contact the Santa Cruz Adult School for the latest course times and price information: (831) 429-3966.

You will report your middle school (9th Grade) course and marks on the UC Application. In the 7th/8th Grade Courses section of the application you should report courses in Math and Language Other Than English where the equivalent of a C or better was earned.

Regarding the two years of a Language Other Than English or Foreign Language requirement, Area E, for admission to the University of California, how you meet this requirement depends on where you attended school from the 7th through the 12th years and what the language of instruction was. Area B of the A-G requirements is often referred to as "English" but it is actually 4 years of instruction in the language of instruction. Area E is 2 years of instruction in a language other than the language of instruction.

Example #1: If Middle School & High school is/was attended in Korea, where the language of instruction is Korean, you would report your Korean courses in Area B of the UC Application. You would report any other languages you took in the Language Other Than English section (Area E), even if one of the languages is English. In this example, students should report the Korean courses they completed in the 7th/8th Grade Courses section of the application as well.

Example #2: If you attended part of your schooling in another country, for example 9th & 10th years in China, and then came to the U.S. for 11th and 12th years, you will use the Chinese courses in China in Area B for 9th & 10th and then the English courses in Area B for 11th & 12th. The English or other foreign language you completed in China for 9th & 10th can be used in Area E. In this example, students should also report the Chinese courses they completed in the 7th/8th Grade Courses section of the application as well.

: MyUCSC Campus Portal
MyUCSC is the university's online academic information systems portal for students, faculty, and staff. It is used by students to enroll in classes, check grades, view financial aid and billing accounts, and update their personal information. Faculty can view and print class rosters, email their classes, and post grades in MyUCSC. Staff members use the portal to view and update student information and to provide a number of direct services to students.

You should report AP/IB/A-Level scores as applicable in the test scores section of the admission application. Official AP/IB/A-Level score reports are not required until after you accept an offer of admission and then are due by July 15 for fall admits and January 15 for winter admits.

Note: First-year students are not required to submit official AP scores so are not held to the Official Test Score deadline.

In order to verify receipt of ACT/SAT and AP Scores, please log in to your Student Portal, and click on the Application Status and Info tile and then "View Test Scores" on the left navigation bar.

: UC will not consider SAT or ACT test scores when making admissions decisions or awarding Regents and Chancellor’s scholarships. If you choose to submit test scores as part of your application, they may be used as an alternative method of fulfilling minimum requirements for eligibility or for course placement after you enroll. Please see the UC Application website for more information.
When the official scores are posted, you will be able to see them in your MyUCSC Portal.
To determine if official test scores have been received by UCSC, log into the Portal and click on the Main Menu tile on the left side of the page. Next, click on the Student Center tile where you will see View Test Scores. You can expand the list to see all of your scores (i.e., SAT, ACT, TOEFL, etc.). Only official scores that we have received are listed here; no dates are listed.
If you took the SAT/ACT/AP exams more than four years ago, we recommend contacting College Board as soon as possible because the scores are considered archived and will take much longer to process.
ACT, SAT and TOEFL scores can be sent to one UC campus and will be shared with all UC campuses, but IELTS and AP exams will not; so you might want to wait to see to which campus you have been admitted to. UC does not recommend that applicants use the College Board's Score Choice function or Rush Score delivery.
If you are a first-year applicant and have sent scores to one UC, but they do not appear in your Student Portal, there may be an issue connecting those official scores to your profile, most often because of name differences on your scores versus what you listed in your application. If you receive an offer of admission and complete the Statement of Intent to Register process and still do not see submitted scores, please submit a Admissions Service Request. at that time for review.
: The university grants credit for International Baccalaureate Higher Level (IBH) Examinations on which a student scores 5, 6, or 7. The university does not grant credit for IB standard or subsidiary level exams. Students completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a score of 30 or higher receive 30 quarter credits. Official IB scores should be sent directly from the testing agency to our office electronically.
For an unaccredited school, applicants not eligible based on domestic subject and academic index must be eligible by examination alone or by IBS subjects. UC eligibility requires IB subjects covering English, math, science, foreign language and social studies with grades of 5 or better and no grade in a required subject below a 4.

For IELTS testing, UCSC only accepts scores submitted electronically by the IELTS test center. No paper Test Report Forms will be accepted. An institutional code is not required. Please contact the test center directly where you took the IELTS test and request that your test scores be sent electronically using the IELTS system. It takes time to process and post scores. Please check your myUCSC portal to check to see if your scores have been entered. If you are offered admission, you will be contacted regarding any missing scores.

The UC Office of the President will conduct its application verification process to ensure applicants have not misrepresented or falsified personal or academic information. The process will impact a select, random sample of applicants who should receive notices at the end of December.

If you or your student have received the notification, they should be reassured that the request is the result of a random selection process and in no way suggests any of the information in their application is inaccurate. These students have until Jan. 31 to submit their responses.

If you would like to withdraw your application with UC Santa Cruz before you have an admissions decision, please use the self-service option by logging in to your MYUCSC Portal using your CruzID and gold password. From the Application Status and Info tile, students can withdraw their UCSC application. You will see this option on the left side bar.

If you have been offered admission you should click on the "Now That You're Admitted, What Next?" link. At the bottom of the following page click on "Decline My Offer of Admission" if you have decided with 100% certainty that you will not be attending UC Santa Cruz.

Options for Applicants Not Offered Admission

First year applicants who have not been offered admission at UC Santa Cruz may wish to consider the following options:

All UC campuses offer a quality education. If you applied to another UC campus and have been offered admission, we strongly encourage you to consider this offer. Many of our applicants also have admission offers at a number of other excellent public and private colleges and universities and could consider those offers.
UC Santa Cruz is committed to assisting students in transferring from a California Community College. At the transfer level, we give the highest priority for admission to junior-level California community college students who present a well-planned course of study, including coursework for their intended major and a competitive grade point average. If, after considering all of your options for higher education, you decide to enroll at a California community college, we urge you to contact the Transfer Center or Counseling Department at that college for assistance in planning a course of study that will lead to successful transfer. UC Santa Cruz maintains a transfer admission guarantee program (TAG) with every community college within the state to ensure that you can earn your degree at our campus. UC Santa Cruz is a selective university (meaning that we cannot admit all “UC-eligible” first-year students who apply), and many qualified students are denied admission. Admission offers were made to students based on a comprehensive evaluation of their application as set forth by the UC Board of Admissions and our campus Academic Senate Committee on Admissions. UC Santa Cruz is committed to assisting students in transferring from a California community college, and we give highest priority for admission to community college students transferring at the junior level. UC Santa Cruz maintains a transfer admission guarantee program (TAG) with every community college within the state to ensure you can earn your degree at our campus. The waitlist is for applicants who were not offered admission due to enrollment limitations but who are considered excellent candidates for admission should space become available in the current admission cycle. Appealing a decision or deadline is an option available to applicants. Unfortunately there are no interviews.

Notification of appeal decisions to the student will be done via the MyUCSC portal and/or email (personal and UCSC). We are unable to provide appeal status or decisions by any other method. All appeal requests will be reviewed thoroughly and decisions are considered final.

Cross-Enrollment – If you are a matriculated student at a California Community College or a California State University, you may be eligible to take courses at UC Santa Cruz. Utilize your MyUCSC Student Portal, your UCSC email and the internet to help you make your decision.

Establish your goals for attending college, and do research online or in person to see if UC Santa Cruz is the place where you can meet your goals.
Keep your contact information up to date to make sure that you are receiving timely information from UCSC. Make sure to check all spam and promotions folders.
Review your Conditions of Admission and the FAQs about those conditions.
Read the UCSC Code of Student Conduct & Principals of Community.

After carefully reviewing your Conditions of Admission Contract and FAQs, make sure to accept your offer of admission through your MyUCSC Student Portal by the deadline. You can also decline your offer of admission through the Student Portal.

Be sure to allow time for this required, multi-step process, which includes paying deposits/fees electronically or printing the payment page to be able to send it with a check.

Please remember that failure to meet all your conditions of admission, including the deadlines, will subject you to cancellation of your admission.

: As an international student, you will need a student visa for full-time study at UC Santa Cruz. The university sponsors full-time students in F-1 or J-1 student visa status. : The International Student Orientation program is designed to help you get to know each other, learn more about the campus, and ease your transition to UCSC. During orientation, you will meet Global Engagement staff and learn about campus resources to support you studies and success.
You will also get to know our fantastic team of Global Leaders. Like you, many of our Global Leaders are international students themselves or have the experience of studying abroad. You will see them around campus wearing their yellow Global Leader t-shirts. If you ever have a question, feel free to go up to one of them for help!
Please note, International Student Orientation is required for all incoming international students on an F-a or J-a visa. Students who consider themselves international but are not in F-1/J-1 status are also welcome to register and attend. Students who attended orientation during Summer Academy International are also required to attend International Student Orientation. If you have additional questions regarding International Student Orientation, please email globalprogramming@ucsc.edu.
: Please remember that your official Secondary Graduation Certificate must either be uploaded and submitted through the Admissions Services Request or presented in person when you arrive on campus, prior to the beginning of the quarter. Upon your arrival at UC Santa Cruz, bring your original Secondary Graduation Certificate to the Admissions Office at the Hahn Student Services building, room #150. It will be reviewed and returned to you.

A hold may be placed on your student account for a variety of reasons and from a variety of departments or offices. In order to release the hold, you must first determine which department/office placed the hold(s) on your account. Students may view their holds by logging on to the MyUCSC portal and clicking on the Student Center. You can view the information about the hold(s) by clicking on the Details link in the Holds box.

Why was my admission cancelled?

Failure to meet your Conditions of Admission Contract will result in the cancellation of your admission. It is your sole responsibility to meet all conditions.

Admission cancellation or a Notice of Intent to Cancel occurs when students fail to meet the requirements of the Conditions of Admission Contract. In most cases, this falls in one of three categories:

(1) missed deadline (e.g., official records are not received by a required date, did not complete Statement of Intent to Register by the deadline)

(2) academic performance shortfall (e.g., an unapproved change in planned academic course occurs or performance within the approved course schedule is below expectations)

(3) falsification of applicant information.

Please refer to your email for specific information about your cancellation. You are responsible for checking all email folders, including spam, and for keeping your contact information current.

What can I do now that my admission has been cancelled?

If you wish to appeal the cancellation of your admission and feel you have new and compelling information, or if you feel there has been an error, please review the information on the Office of Admissions Appeals page.

All admitted applicants are admitted provisionally. Admitted students must adhere to the Conditions of Admission Contract, found on our website. Students are expected to read through the contract carefully and are solely responsible for meeting the conditions. Failure to do so could result in cancellation of admission.

We will consider a request to defer admission. Students must submit their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) in order to be eligible. Please follow directions on our Appeals page to submit your appeal. All information and documentation that is to be considered should be submitted with the appeal.

How am I assigned to a UCSC college?
When you accept your offer of admission you will be asked to indicate five UCSC college preferences. You may also choose to indicate “no preference,” as many students do, meaning you will be fine with any of our 10 colleges.

Once you have completed the acceptance process, and after the acceptance (SIR) deadline, the Office of Admissions affiliates you with a college. The Housing Office will then email you with your college and access to the housing application. Typically this happens in June.

Once you have been affiliated with a college, please direct your questions to the Housing Office at housing@ucsc.edu with any questions.

How do I request university housing?
Students accepting the offer of admission must complete the online acceptance process through their MyUCSC Portal. During the acceptance process you will be asked to indicate a preference for either university housing (on campus) or making your own housing arrangements to live in the off-campus community. Please choose carefully. If you choose Off-Campus Housing, you may not be able to choose On-Campus Housing at a later date. After the acceptance deadline, the Campus Housing Office will send you instructions for completing the online housing application/contract process. Be sure to meet all deadlines for filing the housing application through the housing office.

What housing options are available to me?
The housing options available to you will differ, depending on which college you are affiliated with and whether you are a new or continuing student.

Incoming first year students are generally assigned to live in the residence halls at their college. Incoming transfer students (regardless of college affiliation) are eligible to live at the Transfer Community at Porter College, the University Town Center, or Redwood Grove Apartments.

College Affiliation

During the SIR process, you are asked to indicate your preferences for college affiliation. This is different from choosing a preference for On-Campus Housing or Off-Campus Housing. Please remember that ALL incoming students are assigned an affiliate college regardless of housing preference. Your affiliated college is where your College Advisers work and where you can find general support in your academic pursuits.

Accepting my Offer of Admission

How do I accept my offer of admission?

Log into your student portal at MyUCSC Portal. Go to the “Application Status and Info” tile and click on “View Status.” Click on “Now That I’m Admitted, What’s Next?” At the bottom of the page that appears there are two buttons. One button is to decline our offer of admission and the other button allows you to begin the multi-step process of accepting the offer of admission. Please carefully read all of the information regarding the acceptance process.

Accepting My Offer of Admission

The deadline to accept the offer of admission for can be found on our Dates and Deadlines page. Students admitted off of the waitlist should refer to the deadline given in their email communication and in their myUCSC portal. In order to accept your offer of admission, you must complete ALL steps of the online acceptance process. This is a firm deadline, and no exceptions will be made.

SIR Deposit

Remember that the SIR Deposit is non-refundable. Please visit the University of California website for more information.

Students who indicate a preference for On-Campus Housing may also pay a housing deposit of $150.

If you completed the SIR Process and did not need to make a payment, it may be because your deposit was deferred to your first bill due to the financial information you reported in your UC Application. All students pay the deposit, whether during the SIR process or with their first quarter fees.

MyUCSC Campus Portal

MyUCSC is the university's online academic information systems portal for students, faculty, and staff. It is used by students to enroll in classes, check grades, view financial aid and billing accounts, and update their personal information. Faculty can view and print class rosters, email their classes, and post grades in MyUCSC. Staff members use the portal to view and update student information and to provide a number of direct services to students.

For IELTS, be sure to arrange to have your scores reported to each UC campus to which you apply.
For IELTS testing, UCSC only accepts scores submitted electronically by the IELTS test center. No paper Test Report Forms will be accepted. An institutional code is NOT required. Please contact the test center directly where you took the IELTS test and request that your test scores be sent electronically using the IELTS system. All IELTS test centers worldwide are able to send scores electronically to our institution.

It takes time for our office to process and post scores. Please monitor your MyUCSC portal to see if your scores have been entered. If you are offered admission, you will be contacted regarding any missing scores. If you have had scores sent and do not see them in your portal within 2-3 weeks, please submit a Service Request.
: Students are no longer required to submit SAT or ACT scores. The University of California campuses will not consider SAT or ACT test scores when making admissions decisions or awarding scholarships. If you choose to submit test scores as part of your application, they may be used as an alternative method of fulfilling minimum requirements for eligibility or for course placement after you enroll.
If you wish to have your official SAT/ACT scores sent you may request this through College Board. If you submit scores to one UC Campus, all campuses you applied to will receive them. Once we receive your scores you will be able to view them in your myUCSC student portal.
If you have already sent scores and you do not see them in your portal within 2 weeks, please submit a Service Request and we will look into your case.
: Once you have been offered and accepted your offer of admission by completing the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) through the student portal, we will begin building the checklist of official documents and test scores that we require from you. Be sure to check your To Do List in your myUCSC portal and meet all deadlines.
Monitoring your To Do List to make sure your items go from "required" to "completed" is the best way to determine if we have received everything we need from you. If you do not see your official test scores in your student portal within 3-4 weeks of ordering them OR see an error in a test score you may submit a request through our Services Request Form. We will respond to your inquiry as quickly as possible.
Note: First-year students are not required to submit official AP scores so are not held to the official test score deadline. If you choose to submit your scores we will process them when we receive them.

Check your To Do List Often!

You are responsible for any pending items in your To Do List through your MyUCSC student portal. To check if you have any pending items, log in to your MyUCSC portal then go to the Student Center tile. From your Student Center, your To Do list items will be visible on the right side of the page.

The To Do List contains items requested by various campus offices. Click on each To Do Item to see the details about what is required. You can click on the "more" link in your To Do List to see the status of each To Do List item.

Please note: You can find the transcripts we require on your To Do List in the Student Portal. Please refer to the list to find out what transcripts need to be sent. Click on each request to find details. Transcripts must be official and complete. High school transcripts must include all final grades and a graduation date (with a date, month and year). If the name on your transcript does not match the name in your UCSC record please notify the Admissions Office.

Please do NOT send transcripts before you have been admitted and have completed your Statement of Intent to Register.

How do I send a transcript?

An official transcript is one that we receive directly from the institution you listed on your application in a sealed envelope mailed to our office or sent electronically through a verified vendor with appropriate identifying information and authorized signature.

We cannot accept official transcripts as pdf attachments to emails - even directly from the school.

What transcripts do I need to submit?

Please do not send transcripts until you have been admitted to UCSC and completed your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).

We will request final, official transcripts after you have accepted your offer of admission. The transcripts we require will be listed in your To Do List in your MyUCSC Portal. You can click each of the items on your To Do List to find more information about that particular transcript.

If you are having trouble accessing your portal, please contact ITS Support at help@ucsc.edu.

We do require official transcripts from the reporting school. Students who enroll in college coursework during high school, such as dual enrollment, must contact the college to have their official transcript sent to our office. The high school cannot officially report this information.

The UCSC email will be set through Gmail and has an @ucsc.edu suffix. Your Cruz ID is the prefix.

Students gain access to their @ucsc.edu email address after they submit their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). All official email correspondence from the campus - including faculty - from this point forward will be sent to the student's UCSC Email account.

For further assistance, the Help Desk is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at help@ucsc.edu.

Continuing students should contact their college advising office for assistance in withdrawing from UCSC.

Newly admitted students who wish to withdraw their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).

Withdrawal of SIR

In order to withdraw your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), you must request to be officially withdrawn. The ($250) SIR deposit is non-refundable, but you may be eligible for a housing deposit ($150) refund, depending on the timing of your withdrawal. The Housing Office will initiate the housing deposit refund, if appropriate.

If you enrolled in summer classes through Summer Edge, please email summer@ucsc.edu to address questions regarding academic and financial impacts of withdrawing. For questions related to the 1-credit Slug Orientation Course, please email orientation@ucsc.edu.

Please submit your request to be administratively withdrawn using our Services Request Form.

Please follow these steps to submit your IGETC:

Contact your counseling center at your community college to have a UC IGETC sent to our office. We accept official IGETC's as pdf attachments if it is emailed directly from the counseling office to transcripts@ucsc.edu, notated on an official transcript or mailed.
Monitor your Degree Progress Report. If your IGETC has been posted, you will notice that your lower division general education (GE) requirements will have been satisfied by IGETC.

*Note: The Disciplinary Communication (DC) GE requirement is a UCSC-specific requirement and will show up as Not Satisfied even if you have completed IGETC. This upper division GE will be fulfilled by your major requirements.

If you are a NEW transfer student to UC Santa Cruz, please be aware that it can take 1-2 quarters for your IGETC certificate to post to your Degree Progress Report (DPR).

If we receive a Partial IGETC, with 1-2 courses missing, we will email you with information on how to complete your IGETC.

If you find out from your community college that you are not IGETC certified then you must complete the UCSC General Education (GE) Requirements in order to be eligible to graduate.

Please note that some community colleges do not automatically send a UC IGETC certificate with your transcript, which is why it would be a good idea to contact the counseling center at your community college and confirm. The UC Santa Cruz Office of Admissions ultimately confirms whether courses used towards your certification at your community college satisfy the curriculum requirements.

: Transfer Credit
Taking courses at another institution during the summer or while on a leave can be a good way to continue making progress toward your degree. Our office will review your official transcript to determine whether courses taken at different institutions are transferable to a student's UCSC record, and whether they satisfy general education requirements. Major departments determine whether courses deemed transferable from another institution will satisfy major or minor course requirements.
To identify if courses at California Community Colleges are transferable to UCSC and if they satisfy general education or major requirements, use the statewide ASSIST website. For information about the transferability of courses you hope to take at institutions other than California Community Colleges and before you enroll, you can file a Proposed Program Evaluation. Please note that it can take 4-6 weeks for a response to your proposed program evaluation and there are limits as to how many courses can be evaluated, so it is wise to begin this process early. For information about whether a transferable course will satisfy a requirement for your major, contact an advisor for your major.
If you have questions about transfer credit for courses you have already taken and that have already been evaluated by the Admissions Office and posted to your Degree Progress Report (DPR) request a review by using the Review of Transfer Credit.
After you have completed course work at another institution, request that an official transcript be sent electronically through a verified vendor, such as Parchment, or mailed to:

Transcripts for Readmission - If you've attended any schools since you left UCSC, unofficial and official transcripts are required for readmission. You'll need to obtain unofficial copies of your transcripts (or detailed course information if you're currently enrolled) in order to answer some of the readmission application questions, and to inform your college advisers of your current academic progress. Attach unofficial copies to your readmission application.
After you apply you'll also need to send official transcripts to the Office of The Registrar.
: The Office of Admissions determines which coursework is transferable to the university for units and also determines which courses are used for UCSC General Education requirements for out of state and international universities. The Office of Admissions does not determine UCSC course equivalencies for major course fulfillment. Please consult with your major advisor if you believe your transfer course is the equivalent to a UCSC course.
Admissions does not review courses taken at California community colleges. You can refer to assist.org to find this information.
Students are limited to no more than 5 courses for review from a single institution. We will review no more than two institutions for a maximum of 8 courses. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing.

For a student coming from the British system of education, you will need to complete at least 5 IGCSE/GCSE/GCE O-levels and 3 academic GCE A-Level exams with high achieving grades/marks to be considered eligible for first-year entry. On the University of California application for admission you will list your completed external exams with grades and list your planned A-Level exams with predicted grades.

If you are studying/have studied on the Chinese National Curriculum for part or all of grades 9-12, please follow these instructions when completing the application:

List all courses and marks, from grade 9 (year 3 of lower middle school) through grade 12 (years 1 through 3 of upper middle school) exactly as they appear on your official academic records.
We expect to see 4 years of composition and literature in the language in which you are instructed on the application for admission. If a student is at a school in which Chinese is the primary language of instruction, we expect to see four years of Chinese courses listed in the “B” category on the academic record section of the application. In this case, English courses can be used to satisfy the foreign language requirement in category “E”.
Be prepared to submit your Graduation Certificate from the upper middle school if you are accepted to UC Santa Cruz.

We require all applicants who attend a school in a country where English is not the native language or whose language of instruction in high school (secondary school) was not English to adequately demonstrate English competency as a part of the application process. In most cases, if less than three years of your secondary schooling was with English as the language of instruction, you must meet UCSC's English proficiency requirement.

Students may demonstrate competency by submitting scores from one of the following tests:

IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Overall band score of 6.5 or higher*
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Minimum score of 80 on the Internet-based test.
SAT Writing & Language Test: 31 or higher
ACT English-Writing or English Language Arts portion: 24 or higher
AP English Language and Composition, or English Literature and Composition: 3, 4, or 5
IB Standard Level examination in English: Literature, or Language and Literature: 6 or 7
IB Higher Level examination in English: Literature, or Language and Literature: 5, 6, or 7

In addition, transfer students may fulfill the English Proficiency requirement by completing two UC-transferable English composition courses (not ESL) in the U.S. with grades of C (2.0) or better.

*Please note: For IELTS testing, UCSC only accepts scores submitted electronically by the IELTS test center. No paper test report forms will be accepted. An institutional code is not required. Please contact the test center where you took your test directly and request that your test scores be sent electronically using the IELTS system. Filling out the application

You must report grades exactly as they appear on your official academic records (that includes the secondary school transcript and exam report from the International Baccalaureate Organization.) If possible, report predicted scores you expect to earn for the diploma exams. You should enter the scores on the International External Exams page of the application, under the Test Scores tab (Step 6 of 7 under Test Scores). You should not put your predicted scores on the International Baccalaureate page. If predicted IB scores are not available at the time you submit the application, you do not need to report them on the application, and you do not need to submit them at a later date (unless a campus requests that you do so). UC campuses do not use predicted scores as the only factor for admission.

Students must list their international course work the way it is listed on their official record from the non-U.S. school and then list the courses they are taking from their current U.S. school. We have international specialists at each campus that will read the application and determine if the student is meeting the spirit of the requirements based on where they attended. We recommend that, if the student is a good student at their current U.S. school, they should apply to the U.C. to allow us to consider their application for admission.

Due to the volume of applications we receive we are not able to review letters of recommendation or references. We only consider the information included on the UC application when making admissions decisions.

If you have letters of recommendation and references, we recommend that you keep them in case you'd like to appeal an admissions decision. We will consider these letters in the event of an appeal only.

While academic criteria (grades, courses taken, test scores) are important, the Personal Insight Questions are also a very important part of the application and selection process. The Personal Insight Questions are about getting to know you better – your life experience, interests, ambitions, and inspirations.

First year applicants will have eight questions to choose from, and they must respond to four of the eight questions. Each response is limited to a maximum of 350 words.

Transfer students will have one required question, plus seven additional questions, and they must answer three out of those seven questions. As with the first year application, each response is limited to a maximum of 350 words.

We are unable to review the answers to your personal insight questions outside of your application. For further information, we recommend visiting the UC Application website.

: Unfortunately, the Office of Admissions cannot help you with enrollment. You will need to contact the Office of the Registrar, your college adviser and/or the department in which you are trying to enroll. You may need to supply them with a copy of your unofficial transcripts and/or test scores.
New incoming students who have registered for orientation will be able to enroll in classes after completing modules 1 and 2 and submitting all required official transcripts and test scores. Check your student portal for your enrollment date and time.

: The Summer Session Office assists current students moving toward timely graduation while simultaneously opening UCSC enrollment to our entire community. Their broad summer curriculum is designed for UCSC students to continue making degree progress. They also welcome high schoolers and visitors from other colleges to our world-class research university.
In addition to Summer Session, the office coordinates Summer Edge exclusively for incoming students. The Edge programs allow students to earn units towards graduation while building community and confidence on campus as they transition into university life.
